Optical emission spectroscopy (OES) is a material analysis method that uses a tungsten rod to generate an arc that breaks down the parent material. The vapors are analyzed in an argon environment to determine the element makeups of the material.
OES Spark Testing
In the case of pipeline integrity inspections, Spark Testing is used to determine carbon content of existing pipeline materials. This determines the weldability of the new pipe replacement material to the existing materials and guides the selection of optimal welding techniques and procedures.
