Laser Scanning
What is Laser Scanning?

Laser scanning utilizes targets that allow the pipe to be mapped using the hand-held laser scanner. This mapped image can be viewed and analyzed on the computer to determine fitness for service.

Advantages of Laser Scanning

Laser scanning provides a faster alternative to manually assessing corrosion using a pit gauge or pen probing with an ultrasonic set. Along with the faster assessment, it provides fitness for service calculations (safety factors and burst pressures) in a report that is easy to read and understand. The software also allows for the correlation of in-line inspection features with what was actually found on the pipe.

What can Tilt do for Your Laser Scanning Needs?

Tilt has multiple laser scanning systems this means that if you have corrosion or geometric features, you do not have to worry about waiting for a rental. We can have a crew mobilize to assist you with your laser scanning needs in a short period of time.

3D Laser Assessment

  • Accurate wall thickness assessments.

  • ILI correlations.

  • Corrosion assessments on mechanical damage with a pipe straightening feature.

These assessments include the external wall loss and remaining strength calculations of a pipe’s burst pressure.
